How is the spatial morphology of a fiber reconstructed in software using strain data from three or more FBG strings?
The OFSCN® Fiber Bragg Grating Shape Sensor is designed with a default configuration of three FBG strings, arranged longitudinally along the sensor’s base material at 120-degree intervals. The number of measurement sections, their lengths, and the total length for each FBG string are determined by the customer. More complex structures with additional FBG strings can also be customized.
Regarding the spatial morphology reconstruction, it is important to note that OFSCN® fiber optic shape sensors currently do not come with a matching fiber optic interrogator algorithm. Users are responsible for developing their own algorithms to reconstruct the 3D shape from the strain data obtained from the FBG strings.
