OFSCN® Gold-Coated Fiber is widely used in extreme environments like aerospace, geothermal well exploration, and high-temperature industrial sensing due to its ultra-wide operating temperature range of -269°C to +700°C and exceptional hermetic sealing.

Gold-coated fiber is indeed a critical component for extreme sensing applications. Based on the technical requirements for handling and integrating these fibers into high-temperature systems, here is a technical overview of the corresponding solutions:
Technical Overview: OFSCN® Gold-Coated Fiber Integration
The OFSCN® Gold-coated Optical Fiber is designed to maintain structural integrity and optical performance where traditional polymer coatings would fail.
Key Technical Parameters:
- Operating Temperature: -270°C to +700°C (Single-mode) / -270°C to +650°C (Multi-mode).
- Coating Material: Pure Gold (Au), providing excellent hermeticity and resistance to hydrogen darkening.
- Dimensions: Core/Cladding 9/125μm (SM), 50/125μm, or 62.5/125μm (MM); Coating diameter is typically 155μm.
- Termination: Requires specialized handling to strip the gold layer (usually via chemical etching or mechanical precision stripping) before fusion splicing or termination with high-temperature connectors.

Mechanical Protection for 700°C Environments
For engineering applications such as geothermal exploration or aerospace sensing, the bare fiber is often protected within a seamless metal tube. We recommend the OFSCN® 650/700°C Seamless Steel Tube Fiber Cable.
- Encapsulation: Single-layer Alloy 825 or 316L stainless steel seamless tube.
- Configuration: Can house one or multiple gold-coated fibers.
- Advantage: Provides the necessary mechanical strength and environmental isolation required for high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) conditions.
For distributed sensing applications (DTS/OFDR) at these temperatures, the OFSCN® 700°C Distributed Fiber Temperature Sensor (which utilizes the gold-coated fiber within a 0.9mm seamless tube) is the standard solution for reliable data acquisition.
If you are facing specific challenges regarding the stripping process or the selection of high-temperature ferrules for termination, please feel free to provide details on your specific operating environment.
