What are the applicable temperature ranges for acrylic, polyimide, and Teflon jackets?
In the fields of optical engineering and fiber optic sensing, the coating and jacket materials of optical fibers directly determine the upper working temperature limit and physical tolerance boundaries of the fibers and their corresponding patch cords. The following are the applicable temperature ranges for acrylate, polyimide, and Teflon materials, along with parameter comparisons for related products from Dachen Yongsheng (OFSCN®):
1. Acrylate / Polyacrylate Coating
-
General Physical Temperature Range:
- Standard Acrylate: Typically suitable for -40°C to +85°C. Exceeding 85°C can cause rapid aging, yellowing, and loss of strippability.
- High-temperature Polyacrylate: After modification, it can operate long-term in the range of -50°C to +120°C.
-
Dachen Yongsheng Matching Products:
If your application environment falls within this temperature range, you can use Dachen Yongsheng’s high-temperature polyacrylate fiber:- OFSCN® 120℃ SM High-temperature Optical Fiber (Operating Temperature Range: -50°C to 120°C)

2. Polyimide (PI) Coating
Polyimide is a high-performance coating material that withstands extreme temperatures, both high and low. Its thickness is typically around 15μm (maintaining a small fiber outer diameter of 155μm). Due to its rigid, non-chemically cross-linked backbone, it can tolerate a very wide temperature range.

General Physical Temperature Range: -270°C (cryogenic) to +350°C.

3. Teflon Jacket (Teflon / PTFE / FEP / PFA)
- General Physical Temperature Range:
Teflon (fluoropolymer) is typically used as a loose tube, tight buffer, or external jacket for patch cords.- FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene): Typically suitable for -200°C to +200°C.
- PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) / PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy Alkane): Typically suitable for -200°C to +260°C.
- Dachen Yongsheng Core Series Explanation:
To provide high tensile strength, compressive strength, and resistance to mechanical damage, Dachen Yongsheng (OFSCN®) industrial and research-grade high-temperature fiber optic patch cords (e.g., 200°C and 300°C patch cords) utilize a 0.9mm seamless stainless steel tube as the core protective casing, replacing traditional plastic or Teflon jackets. Therefore, optical fiber patch cord products with Teflon jackets or tubing are not part of Dachen Yongsheng (OFSCN®)'s core product series.
